These gear bundles contain everything needed to convert your swerve modules between the "L" drive gear ratios.
The "L" followed by a number indicates the specific gear ratio. The "+" designator after L# indicates that the pinon gear on the drive motor is a 16T, instead of a 14T. The L# and L#+ therefore refer to the overall gear ratio of the swerve module. The pinion gear size is specific to each swerve module, and it is not included in the L Gearset.
The swerve module product pages (MK3, MK4, MK4c, MK4i, MK4n) detail the drivetrain free speeds based on the motor and gear ratios.
Please refer to following table and important notes below for what is included and what gear ratios are applicable to each swerve module:
Notes:
- The standard MK4i is offered with L1, L2, and L3. It can be converted to the "+" version of the gear ratio via this 16T Drive Pinion Gear Adapter Kit. That kit replaces the standard 14T drive motor pinion gear with a 16T.
- All four L Gearsets fit the MK3, though the free speeds for it are 25% slower than the MK4 due to the bevel gear ratio at the wheel being 4:1 instead of 3:1. The MK3 was offered with Standard and Fast gear ratios, which are L3 and L4 Gearsets, respectively.
- Matching L Gearsets will result in the same drivetrain free speed across the entire MK4 family of swerve modules, so different swerve modules can be used on the same drivetrain. For instance,
- L2 MK4 and L2 MK4i have the same drivetrain free speed.
- L3+ MK4i (L3 Gearset + 16T Drive Pinion Gear Adapter Kit) and L3+ MK4n have the same drivetrain free speed.
